Fabrizio Bosso — trumpet

Voted for several consecutive years by the leading specialist press as the best Italian jazz trumpeter, Fabrizio Bosso was born in Turin on 5 November 1973 into a family where music was a natural, daily presence. It was his father Gianni — a self-taught trumpeter and passionate jazz lover — who from the earliest age passed on to him a deep love for the instrument. At just 5 years old he picked up a trumpet for the first time; at 15 he graduated from the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory in Turin, already displaying a technical command far beyond his years.

Technically flawless, what strikes most about Bosso is his wholly personal musical voice — one in which the colour and dynamics of sound are never taken for granted, the sense of swing never falters even in the interpretation of standards, and creative tension never lets up. He has performed under the direction of George Russell, Mike Gibbs, Kenny Wheeler, Dave Liebman, Carla Bley and Steve Coleman, and was recruited by Charlie Haden for several legs of the Liberation Music Orchestra tour.

In 1999 he was voted "Best New Talent" in Italian jazz by Musica Jazz magazine, and in 2002 received the prestigious Django d'Or, the French critics' award that established him on the international stage. He has performed alongside Dee Dee Bridgewater, Joe Lovano, Maria Schneider and Wayne Marshall, and shared the stage with some of Italy's biggest musical names, from Claudio Baglioni to Zucchero, Tiziano Ferro to Mario Biondi. He has collaborated with the London Symphony Orchestra and the RAI Orchestra of Turin, and was the beating heart of the High Five quintet, one of the defining Italian jazz ensembles of the new millennium.

Gifted with a flawless instrumental technique and a lyricism capable of reaching the deepest chords of the soul, Bosso has chosen music as a means of telling his own human and artistic story — to be shared with fellow musicians and audiences alike. On the terrace of M'Ama! he will bring all of this: his unmistakable lyricism, his expressive urgency, a sound that makes the trumpet something extraordinarily close to the human voice.

Alessandro Florio — guitar

A guitarist of distinctive international standing, Alessandro Florio is one of the most original and refined voices in contemporary Italian jazz. He trained at the Civica Scuola di Jazz in Milan — studying under Franco Cerri and Enrico Intra — before graduating from the Prince Claus Conservatorium in the Netherlands and completing a Master in Jazz Performance between Amsterdam and New York, under the guidance of Freddie Bryant, Peter Bernstein and Paul Bollenback.

At the helm of his Hammond Trio he crafts a warm, dynamic sound centred on interplay and expressive freedom. His discography ranges from Roots Interchange to Back to the Blue Coast (AlfaMusic/Egea, 2020), to the most recent Controra Avenue — recorded in New York and received with great enthusiasm by international critics — in which he weaves the spirit of Southern Italy together with the tradition of the American East Coast. He is currently Professor of Jazz Guitar at the State Conservatory of Cuneo.

Alberto Gurrisi — Hammond organ

An organist and pianist born in Milan in 1984, Alberto Gurrisi is one of the most sought-after jazz organists in Italy. From 2003 he studied the Hammond as a self-taught musician, drawing inspiration from the great masters of the instrument — Joey DeFrancesco, Sam Yahel, Larry Goldings, Tony Monaco — until it became his primary voice. He collaborated regularly with Franco Cerri from 2007 to 2018, and has since performed alongside Enrico Rava, Francesco Cafiso, Darryl Jones and the Torino Jazz Orchestra with Carla Bley and Steve Swallow.

The most telling detail for this particular evening: from 2019 to 2023 Gurrisi was a core member of the "Connection" project with Fabrizio Bosso and Rosario Giuliani, with whom he recorded the eponymous album for Warner Music in 2021. A bond already tested and proven — which makes their reunion on the M'Ama! stage something far greater than a simple first meeting.

Giovanni Scasciamacchia — drums

A drummer and composer born in Bernalda (MT) in 1977, Giovanni Scasciamacchia is one of the most solid and creative figures in the Italian jazz rhythm scene. A self-taught musician formed through attentive listening to the great Jazz masters, music critic Francesco Cataldo Verrina has described him as an "accredited templar of the percussive arts". Highly active in Italy and abroad — with a tour in Japan and appearances at the leading national festivals — his discography includes Constant (2023) and the recent Patto Armonico, recorded with international guests including Perico Sambeat and Dado Moroni. On the M'Ama! stage, he will be the beating heart of the quartet.

The Evening: Standards, Blues and Soul Under the Stars

The 25 September concert will be a celebration of the great American jazz repertoire: timeless standards, blues shadings and soul spirit, filtered through the unmistakable voice of Bosso's trumpet and the enveloping sound of Florio's Hammond trio. A dialogue between trumpet and Hammond organ that calls to mind the great moments of American organ jazz from the 1950s and '60s, reinterpreted with contemporary sensitivity and language by four musicians at the height of their artistic maturity.

The panoramic terrace of restaurant M'Ama! — with its breathtaking views over the Tyrrhenian Sea, candles glowing between the tables and the September sky beginning to fill with stars — is the ideal setting for an evening such as this. Here jazz is not merely music to be listened to: it is an atmosphere to be breathed in, a moment to be lived with every sense.

And as has become the established tradition of "Margherita in Jazz", the music intertwines with an exclusive buffet of unique products and Slow Food Presidia from Campania and the Amalfi Coast: authentic flavours that tell the story of this land with the same depth with which Bosso's trumpet tells the story of jazz.

Some evenings mark the boundary between before and after. This will be one of them.
